The Idaho Falls Sanitation Division collects waste on an established schedule using automated carts. Containers must be placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on the scheduled collection day and contain only City-approved waste within City-provided carts (City Code 8-6-14).
Idaho Falls provides automated (autoload) solid waste collection through its own Sanitation Division, serving over 15,500 residential properties. Under City Code Section 8-6-14, the City collects waste according to a schedule it establishes, and prior to 7 a.m. local time on the scheduled collection day, all waste containers must be placed at the street curb or inside edge of the sidewalk where the sidewalk is adjacent to the curb. Empty containers must be withdrawn from the curb as soon as practical after collection. All waste collected from a City-provided container must be contained within that container (8-6-14B). The City may decline to remove waste from a container that does not meet Chapter requirements or is not placed in proper containers (8-6-9). Certain materials are excluded from City pickup under Section 8-6-15: construction/renovation/demolition dirt and debris; appliances (white goods), large machines, and tree trunks not placed in a proper container; hazardous waste, toxic chemicals, waste oils and lubricants; dead animals; and any waste not contained in City-provided containers unless otherwise authorized. Residents can find their specific collection schedule using the City's Interactive Sanitation Map. The landfills and transfer station serving the area are operated by Bonneville County, not the City, so self-haul disposal and certain restricted items are handled at the county facility.
Containers set out late or holding excluded materials may not be collected (8-6-9, 8-6-15). Set out before 7 a.m. on the scheduled day; remove empty carts promptly after pickup (8-6-14A).
