Irvington, NJ Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Township Code § 535-11B sets Irvington's curbside bulk-item rule inside the receptacle-specifications section of Chapter 535. A single piece of solid bulk material or furniture may be placed at the curb, but only on the Township's scheduled second garbage day of the week, and only if it does not weigh more than 50 pounds and can be handled by one person. Property owners are capped at two bulk pieces per week, so larger cleanouts or heavier furniture have to go through a different channel, such as a private hauler or the Township's white-goods and electronics drop-off program at 406 Coit Street described elsewhere in Chapter 535.

The rule works together with § 550-13E, which carves bulky items such as furniture, bound carpet and padding, and white goods placed curbside for pickup out of the separate requirement that dumpsters and refuse containers stay covered at all times, confirming that bulk items are meant to sit briefly at the curb uncovered while awaiting the second garbage-day pickup rather than be stored in a covered container.
