Johns Creek requires registered haulers to provide residential customers at least once-a-month bulky trash pickup (Sec. 42-19). Bulky trash is defined as large items like appliances, mattresses, furniture, and tires that won't fit in a normal cart. Pickup is arranged through your hauler.
Bulk disposal in Johns Creek is part of the minimum service level the city requires of registered private haulers. Under Sec. 42-19, residential basic service includes once-a-month bulky trash pickup (in addition to weekly garbage, recycling, and yard trimmings). The Solid Waste chapter (Sec. 42-2) defines "bulky trash" as solid waste materials that cannot fit into a customary waste collection container, including but not limited to appliances, mattresses, chairs, furniture, tires, and other large items. For commercial customers, the frequency of bulky trash and yard-trimming pickup is set by the individual contract between the business and its hauler rather than by a fixed citywide schedule. Because Johns Creek operates an open-market hauler system, residents should contact their own registered hauler to schedule a bulk pickup and to confirm any item limits or extra fees, which the city does not regulate. Large items must still be handled within the property-maintenance rules - they cannot be allowed to accumulate as rubbish on exterior property (IPMC Section 308) while awaiting collection, and items cannot be dumped on other property.
Bulk disposal itself is a routine service, not an offense. Problems arise if large items are dumped illegally or left to accumulate as rubbish: that can draw a property-maintenance citation under Sec. 1-7 (up to $1,000.00 and/or six months) or a state littering charge under O.C.G.A. 16-7-43.
