Unincorporated Orange County residents receive two free bulky-item pickups per year through their franchise hauler, with up to four items collected per pickup. Items must weigh under 150 pounds. Household hazardous waste is accepted free at four county collection centers.
OC franchise haulers provide two complimentary bulky-item pickups per calendar year for residents in unincorporated areas. Each pickup allows up to four items that must weigh less than 150 pounds and be manageable by a two-person crew. Multi-unit dwelling residents receive the same entitlement. Items not accepted include car batteries, tires, automotive parts, and construction and demolition debris. Christmas tree collection is provided free on the first two regularly scheduled collection days after Christmas Day. For household hazardous waste and electronic waste, Orange County operates four permanent collection centers that accept these items free of charge from county residents year-round. Additional bulky pickups beyond the two annual free ones may incur fees depending on the hauler.
Illegal dumping of bulk items in public rights-of-way or vacant lots may result in code enforcement action and administrative citations ranging from $100 to $1,000.
