Section 15-2-7 of the Orem City Code, Placing brush and cuttings for collection, states the operative rule for yard debris directly: brush, bushes, tree limbs and cuttings shall be cut into lengths that fit inside the receptacle. That single sentence means Orem does not run a special curbside brush pickup where oversized branches are left loose at the curb; instead the material has to be reduced to a size the standard automated receptacle can hold before the crew will take it. The related term "bulky waste" is separately defined in Section 15-1-3 to mean stoves, refrigerators, water tanks, washing machines, furniture, large concrete and asphalt chunks, and other waste with weights and volumes greater than a container or receptacle at a given premises can handle, which is the code's way of flagging that these items exceed normal cart-based service and have to be arranged for separately rather than stuffed into a receptacle.

Whatever category the material falls into, Section 15-2-8 bars letting solid waste collect or remain on a lot for more than one week without written City approval, with a narrow exception for leaf and grass piles being composted into mulch, and even materials excluded from the "solid waste" definition cannot be left accumulating for more than thirty days under the same section.
