Asheville, NC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 15-45, in Chapter 15's Article II on storage and collection, splits residential service into two tracks depending on whether a household is on the city's automated cart system. Subsection (a) covers household customers not yet converted to automated collection: garbage and household trash is collected once each week at curbside or the edge of the vehicular travel-way, on a schedule the solid waste manager sets, and that weekly pickup is limited to six approved receptacles per household. Subsection (b) covers households and multiple residential complexes on the automated system: collection is also weekly, but only the city-owned automated rollout container will be picked up, with no supplemental bags or bins collected.

in the Central Business District, and rollout containers must sit within two feet of the curb, at least five feet from any obstacle such as a parked car, tree, or mailbox, with the handle turned away from the street. Oversized household trash is collected separately under § 15-45(c) on a schedule the solid waste manager sets, but only after the household customer contacts the sanitation division to arrange the pickup. Section 15-45(h) lists what the city will never collect on the residential schedule regardless of timing, including industrial waste, hazardous refuse, and corrugated cardboard, which goes through the recycling program instead.
