Cumberland County, NC Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

County Code Sec. 11-31 limits residents to "only the solid waste collection services and facilities hereinafter specified" and makes using an unauthorized collection method a violation of Chapter 11. Under Sec. 1, county collection facilities take waste from noncommercial residential premises only, in individual loads capped at four cubic yards; Sec. 2 bars commercial haulers and non-owner-occupants from using these county drop-off sites. Residents may instead contract with a commercial solid waste collector, but only one holding a permit issued by the county health department, per Sec.

11-33. Owners may also self-haul their own waste under Sec. 11-34: up to four cubic yards per load requires no permit, but hauling more than four cubic yards requires the same health department permit and conditions that apply to commercial collectors. Sec. 4 and Sec. 3 both require that waste be transported so nothing escapes the vehicle; losing waste onto another person's property during transport is itself a separate violation. Before collection, Sec. 11-21(a) caps on-premises storage at no more than seven days and requires storage in receptacles sized to hold everything generated on-site, per county board of health rules, with designated recyclables segregated out before pickup or drop-off under Sec. 11-21(d).
