Greenwood, IN Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

The City of Greenwood runs its trash and recycling collection through a single contracted program administered by the Board of Public Works and Safety under Article 9 of Chapter 6. Section 6-306(c)(1) requires that any bid the Board accepts guarantee at least weekly pickup of both recyclable materials and trash from residential users within the City. That service is not optional for residents: § 6-309 sets a monthly user fee, currently $18.60 as of November 1, 2023 'and continuing until amended,' charged to every residential user of the service or owner of property to which the service is available, regardless of usage, meaning the fee applies whether or not a household puts out trash in a given week.

Bills are rendered monthly under § 6-309(g), and § 6-309(h) makes it a violation of that section to fail to pay a waste management bill by its due date, adding a 10% collection charge on the unpaid balance and, for bounced checks, a $20.00 NSF fee plus the bank's actual charge. Residential users who will be away for at least a full calendar month can seek a fee rebate under § 6-310 by notifying the City at least seven days in advance. The bag limit for weekly trash is five 30-gallon bags per household under § 6-313, with properly prepared recyclables excluded from that cap.
