Greenwood, IN Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Unlike the mandatory weekly trash and recycling service in Article 9, Greenwood's yard waste collection runs as a strictly voluntary add-on. Section 6-321 lets the Board of Public Works and Safety create a Leaf and Limb Program specifically for households or properties that do not otherwise meet the code's definition of 'residential user,' for example a larger multi-family complex excluded from the standard trash program under § 6-305. Participants pay a non-refundable annual fee of $75.00 to join and, once enrolled, must follow the same rules and regulations that apply to residential users of the regular trash and recycling program, including the container and bag-limit standards elsewhere in Article 9.

The program is geographically limited: all leaves and limbs collected must come from property located within the City of Greenwood's limits, and the ordinance bars bringing in yard waste from outside the city to take advantage of the service. This sits alongside the Board's broader authority under § 6-306(d) to develop a program eliminating grass clippings and leaves from the general waste stream and to consider a separate service for chipping tree limbs and brush, for which the Board can set a price or fee through bidding or quoting plus a reasonable administrative charge, billed directly to the users who choose the supplemental service.
