Middletown, OH Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Section 1066.07 of the Middletown Code sets the collection frequency and charge for the City's contracted garbage and rubbish service. Residential premises are collected once a week, with material placed at the curb line on street routes or the alley line where the City collects from alleys; the current residential rate, effective January 1, 2025, is $21.00 per month under section 1066.07(a). Commercial premises are billed the same $21.00 monthly rate for weekly pickup, capped at two containers of no more than 35 gallons each under section 1066.07(b).

Two rate reductions cut the residential charge to 50% of normal: customers certified by the City as 65 or older, and customers certified 100% disabled under Social Security, a public retirement system, or the federal government, each qualify if they are personally responsible for the bill and their household income falls at or below the HUD median-low income level for the Hamilton-Middletown area, verified in writing to the Public Works and Utilities Director under section 1066.07(c)-(d). The reduced rate applies only to the customer's permanent residence.

Unpaid charges become a lien on the property; if not paid within 30 days of the due date, the City can certify the debt to the Butler County Auditor for collection with the property's taxes under section 1066.07(f). Rates have been amended repeatedly since the fee structure was first set by Ordinance O95-118 in 1995, most recently by Ordinance O2024-66 in September 2024.
