Skokie, IL Trash & Recycling: Collection Schedule (2026)

Skokie Village Code Section 86-15 sets two firm rules for solid waste operations. First, no waste materials collected in the Village may be disposed of within the Village, meaning haulers must take collected refuse to an outside disposal or transfer facility rather than dumping locally. , a window that applies to the Village's own refuse crews and to the private scavengers licensed or franchised under Article II of Chapter 86. That window can only be widened if the Village Manager or a designee authorizes an emergency waste collection schedule, which the Village has used after major storms or holiday disruptions to catch up on missed routes.

The hours provision sits inside a chapter whose stated purpose, under Section 86-1, is to regulate collection and pre-collection practices for garbage, refuse, rubbish, landscape waste, building materials, debris and recyclables, and it binds every resident, landlord, business, institution and private scavenger operating in the Village. Collection itself is split between two tracks: Village crews service most residential properties under policies set out in Section 86-16, while commercial, industrial, institutional and multifamily buildings are served under an exclusive franchise and license system administered under Sections 86-41 through 86-51, unless a building has obtained a written exemption from the Village Manager under Section 86-45.

Under that franchise system, licensed scavengers must still meet minimum service standards set in Section 86-44, which requires collection at least once every week regardless of the specific schedule a building negotiates.
