Full Breakdown

Section 86-17(a), Landscape Waste Collection, sets the packaging and size rules for yard waste picked up by the Village or its contractor at residential sites. Landscape waste, defined in Section 86-2 as grass, leaves, small brush and tree clippings and other similar waste, must be placed in biodegradable paper bags except as otherwise provided in the section. Large limbs must be cut to lengths not exceeding 5 feet and must not exceed 3 inches in diameter, and they must be bundled together with other landscape waste for collection; no bag of landscape waste or bundle of brush, including branches and limbs, may exceed 50 pounds.

Leaves get an alternative: residents may either push them into the curb lane of the street during the Village's fall leaf collection, when the Village runs a dedicated vacuum program, or bag them like other landscape waste in a biodegradable paper bag for regular pickup. day-before setout limit and same-day container removal, apply equally to bagged and bundled landscape waste. 13 and amended by Ordinance No. 06-1-C-3408 on January 17, 2006, and Ordinance No. 17-8-C-4310 on August 7, 2017.

Violations & Fines

Failing to bag landscape waste properly, exceeding the 5-foot limb length, the 3-inch diameter limit, or the 50-pound bundle and bag weight cap is a violation of Chapter 86, punishable under Section 86-3 by the penalty in Section 1-6, up to $750.00 for each day the violation continues, following a violation notice served under Section 86-4.
