Tinley Park, IL Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Section 96.15 of the Tinley Park Village Code establishes a village-wide landscape waste program separate from regular refuse collection, run on the same weekly schedule and using dedicated trucks and equipment. For single-family detached homes, only the village-designated refuse disposal contractor can pick up landscape waste; every other property type is served by whichever scavenger holds that property's refuse contract, unless a landscape company is doing the removal as an incidental part of lawn, tree, or shrub care it is already performing. No one else can collect curbside landscape waste in the village without a village scavenger license.

The code sets two hard packaging rules. First, landscape waste bound for a landfill can never be mixed with regular refuse in the same container. Second, single-family households must set waste out in the village-approved green 95-gallon wheeled yard waste cart, in approved biodegradable bags, or in another village-approved alternative; non-residential properties and multi-family units follow whatever alternative packaging the village has approved for their use. For non-single-family uses, the scavenger can charge a reasonable per-unit fee for landscape waste pickup; single-family residents pay for it as part of their standard refuse bill, which already bundles recycling and landscape waste with trash service.

Enforcement runs through the scavenger's license rather than a direct fine on residents in most cases: § 96.15(D) makes any scavenger violation grounds for license suspension or revocation proceedings under the village code. Independently, § 96.99 sets a fine of $25 to $500 per offense for violating any provision of Chapter 96, with each day of a continuing violation counted as a separate offense.
