St. Louis, MO Trash & Recycling: Dumpster Rules (2026)

St. Louis regulates where and how businesses keep their dumpsters under Code § 11.02.255. Nonresidential refuse containers must be located in an area screened from view of the street unless that's not feasible: a rule the Refuse Commissioner and Building Division enforce citywide, though it doesn't apply to construction-site dumpsters placed under an active building permit. Every commercial container must be labeled with the owner's name and address, plus a local contact if different, and must be emptied at least once a week. Haulers also can't collect from a nonresidential dumpster within 200 feet of a residentially zoned lot or any dwelling between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., shielding nearby residents from late-night truck noise.
