Moorpark, CA Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The City of Moorpark's Residential Trash Service page lists six days on which "Collection services will not be scheduled": New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. The franchise agreement between the city and G.I. Industries, effective December 4, 2024, defines "Holiday" with the same six days plus "any other day designated as such by City and Contractor." The municipal code names none of them: Section 8.36.370(D) refers only to "a holiday recognized by the city or any approved disposal site."

This season, Thanksgiving Day is Thursday, November 26, 2026, Christmas Day is Friday, December 25, 2026, and New Year's Day is Friday, January 1, 2027. The city page says "Regularly scheduled collection services occurring on a holiday during the week will resume the following day after the holiday. Services scheduled for weekends will proceed as planned." Agreement Section 3.5.1(A) adds that when the day after a defined Holiday falls on Sunday, collection moves to the following Monday, and "All Collection days falling on other legal holidays will remain as scheduled."

The code and the agreement set different hours. Section 8.36.370(A) puts residential collection between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, "or as set forth in the franchise agreement", while the city page and the agreement run collection from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on any day except Sunday. The agreement bars Sunday pick-ups unless the City Manager authorizes them in writing and states that "Hours and days of Collection are subject to change by City." Section 3.1.1(A) keeps the black, blue and green containers on the same day of service for residential accounts, and Section 3.1.1(B) caps the gap between collections at eight (8) Business Days when a Holiday intervenes.

The week after Christmas adds two programs. The city page says Christmas tree recycling "starts December 26 and resumes for two weeks", with TreeCycle bins on Marquette Street and Park Crest Lane, and residents can set out up to three (3) large bags of extra trash beside their carts "for two collection days, or two weeks, after Christmas." Agreement Sections 3.2.4 and 3.2.5 tie the tree program and the cleanup service to the two regularly-scheduled Collection days following December 25.
