North Port, FL Trash & Recycling: Holiday Pickup Schedule (2026)

The governing rule is the City's own published Holiday Collection Schedule, which sits behind two code sections. North Port City Code § 62-51(d)(1) says that on legal holidays observed by the Solid Waste District, collection of solid waste will not be made, and that residents affected by the observed holiday are served one day later, starting the day after the holiday. It adds that holiday scheduling is adjustable by the Director. The code does not name the holidays. The City's Garbage page does: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

The 2026 Recycling Calendar repeats the same five holidays in its footer and states: "Collection is delayed one day after holiday." The same footer tells residents to have all containers curbside by 7:00 am on collection day. On the 2026 calendar the no-collection dates are New Year's Day (Thursday, January 1), Labor Day (Monday, September 7), Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 26) and Christmas Day (Friday, December 25). Independence Day, July 4, 2026, falls on a Saturday, and the City's pages print no separate rule for a weekend holiday. New Year's Day 2027 is Friday, January 1. The 2026 calendar is the only calendar posted in the source, so no 2027 dates are printed there, but the Garbage page rule is a standing rule with no year attached.

The delay is cumulative for the week, not a single make-up trip. The Garbage page says collection is delayed one day for the remainder of the week, and that covers garbage, recycling and yard waste, which § 62-51(d)(1) says are each collected once a week. Recycling alternates by week, with paper products one week and commingled material the next under § 62-51(a)(3), so a holiday shift moves the day of pickup and does not change which material type is due.

Two more code provisions frame the schedule. Under § 62-51(c), when collection services are curtailed due to a national, state, or local holiday, the District is to publish an adjusted schedule in a newspaper of general circulation at least one day before the holiday. Under § 62-46, the director of public works has authority to make regulations concerning the days of collection. Ordinary service runs Monday through Friday, with residential collection beginning no earlier than 7:00 a.m. under § 62-51(b).
