North Port pushes trash, recycling and yard waste pickup back one day after any week with an observed holiday, with the delay cascading through the rest of that week.

When collection services are curtailed due to a national, state, or local holiday, the District shall publish an adjusted schedule for the provision of services in a newspaper of general circulation at least one day prior to the holiday.(d)Frequency of collection.(1)Generally. Solid waste, recyclables and yard waste accumulated within the city will be collected once each week. On legal holidays which are observed by the Solid Waste District and days on which the sanitation landfill is closed, collection of solid waste will not be made; however, the collection of solid waste for those persons affected by the observed holiday will be made one day later starting the day after the holiday. Holiday scheduling is adjustable by the Director.(2)Dumpster service or roll-off. The frequency of collection for commercial customers and multifamily condominiums using dumpster or roll-off service ranges from one to five days each week.(3)Authority of director to require more frequent collections. Full Breakdown

When a holiday observed by the Solid Waste District falls in a collection week, City Code § 62-51(d)(1) skips that day's pickup and moves it one day later starting the day after the holiday, which shifts every remaining pickup that week by one day. Before the change takes effect, § 62-51(c) requires the District to publish the adjusted schedule in a newspaper of general circulation at least one day ahead of the holiday. The Director can adjust holiday scheduling case by case.

Violations & Fines

Missed a pickup because a holiday shifted the schedule? Check the published adjusted schedule and set your container out the following collection day: there is no separate fine, but early or late set-outs outside the posted window are handled under the district's normal placement rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

No: it shifts. Collection for an affected holiday is made one day later, and the rest of that week's pickups shift accordingly per City Code § 62-51(d)(1).
How will I know the adjusted holiday schedule?
The Solid Waste District publishes it in a newspaper of general circulation at least one day before the holiday, per City Code § 62-51(c).
