Bartow County, GA Trash & Recycling: Illegal Dumping (2026)

Section 62-182 sets a graduated penalty ladder for improper or unpermitted dumping by both the driver and the owner of a vehicle used at a Bartow County solid waste management facility. A first violation draws a citation of warning against the permit and dumping privileges. A second violation within three years brings a citation to Bartow County Magistrate Court and up to a 30-day suspension of dumping privileges; a third brings up to a 90-day suspension; a fourth brings up to a one-year suspension; and more than four violations in three years bring a permanent revocation of the permit and dumping privileges.

Section 62-183 layers a separate, harsher schedule on top of that one for anyone who racks up more than two citations within a single calendar year, at the commissioner's discretion: up to a six-month suspension for two citations in one year, up to a one-year suspension for three, and permanent revocation for four or more. Any other violation of the solid waste article not specifically penalized elsewhere falls under the catch-all in § 62-184, which starts with a warning, then a one-week suspension, a two-week suspension, and finally a 30-day suspension for a fourth and any later violation.

Separately, § 62-151(d) charges anyone who dumps unauthorized waste at a county facility 200 percent of the tipping fee for that load plus removal costs, and the county's littering rule at § 62-36 incorporates the state litter control law by reference and requires every vehicle hauling garbage, waste or debris on county roads to keep its load secured so nothing escapes.
