Darlington County, SC Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Darlington County Code § 50-41(b) sets the operating standard that applies to every pickup run once solid waste leaves a curbside cart, bulk container or convenience station. Under Condition of vehicles, all vehicles used to collect and transport solid waste in the county must be kept sanitary and built to prevent leakage or blowing of waste, and each vehicle must display a legend on its side identifying the hauler's name, the vehicle's capacity and the county dumping permit number. Under Litter prevention, the body of the vehicle must be wholly enclosed, or kept covered at all times in transit with an adequate cover or canvas fitted with eyelets and rope for tying down, or another approved method that prevents leaking, falling, blowing or spillage; the owner of an offending vehicle carries nondelegable responsibility for any resulting violation.

All refuse vehicles are subject to inspection at any reasonable time by county or state law enforcement or code enforcement officers, and correcting any deficiency found on inspection is likewise the nondelegable responsibility of the vehicle's owner. These pickup standards apply on top of the collection-method rules in § 50-41(a), which set curbside/mailbox cart pickup and manned convenience-station drop-off as the two ways residential waste actually reaches the county transfer station.
