Edison Township operates municipal trash collection on a section-based schedule and single-stream recycling on a bi-weekly cycle across 10 sections. All materials must be at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day. The annual Recycling & Sanitation Calendar published by the Department of Public Works governs.
Edison Township's Department of Public Works (DPW) provides curbside garbage collection to single-family and small multi-family residences (private collection is required for properties with 5+ units and most commercial buildings). The garbage pickup schedule rotates by neighborhood section; residents identify their section using the DPW's annual Recycling & Sanitation Calendar (page 9 lists the section map and collection days). Recycling is collected bi-weekly across 10 designated recycling sections under a single-stream program. All materials - garbage and recycling alike - must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the collection day; obstructed cans (blocked by parked cars, snow piles, or other vehicles) will not be serviced. Only township-supplied or approved containers are used; cardboard, paper, or plywood drums are themselves discarded with the trash. Items not accepted in regular garbage include building/demolition materials, textiles, fixtures, earth, stone, sawdust, large rugs, hazardous materials, and all recyclables - those require either the bi-weekly recycling pickup, the bulk-item program, the Recycling Center drop-off at 745 New Durham Road, or a Middlesex County hazardous-waste event. The DPW main line is (732) 248-7288.
Setting out materials in non-approved containers, before 6:00 a.m. cut-off conformity, or on a non-scheduled day can be cited as a Chapter 21 violation: $25 - $250 first offense under Β§1-5. Persistent violations and commercial properties putting out without a private hauler can also be cited under Chapter 15 (Property Maintenance) for accumulation.
