Burrtec provides weekly automated curbside collection in Indio. All carts must be out by 6:00 a.m. with lids closed. When a holiday falls on a weekday, collection for the rest of that week is delayed one day. Burrtec observes six holidays; report missed pickups to Burrtec.
The City of Indio's exclusive franchised hauler, Burrtec Waste & Recycling Services, provides automated weekly residential collection (trash, recycling, and organics/green waste). Per the city's official Recycling Service Guide, 'All barrels must be out before 6:00 a.m. with the lids closed,' with the cart placed 'at the curb, with the front facing the street.' Only material inside the proper cart is collected; loose refuse beside the cart is not (the one exception is flattened, tied cardboard next to the recycling cart). Maximum weight is 150 lbs per barrel. For holidays, the guide states: 'When a holiday falls on a weekday, collections for the remainder of the week will be delayed by one day.' Burrtec observes six holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Disabled residents who hold a DMV N-1 permanent disabled placard qualify for free walk-in backyard/side-yard collection. Missed pickups, broken, or stolen carts are reported directly to Burrtec at (760) 340-2113, not the city. Use of the franchised hauler is mandatory under the city's solid-waste franchise (effective June 15, 2022); collection day depends on your address — Burrtec assigns it.
Service problems (missed pickup, damaged or stolen carts) are handled by Burrtec at (760) 340-2113. Carts set out improperly, overloaded past 150 lbs, or refuse left out creating blight may be cited as a nuisance under Indio Municipal Code Chapter 12 by Indio PD Code Enforcement.
