The Town of Little Elm contracts with a solid waste hauler to provide weekly curbside trash collection and every-other-week recycling collection for all residential households. Each residence receives a town-issued 96-gallon trash cart and a 96-gallon recycling cart. Carts must be placed at the curb by 7:00 AM on the scheduled collection day with lids fully closed and cart handles facing the house. Carts should be at least three feet from mailboxes, parked vehicles, and other obstructions to allow automated collection arms to operate. Trash that does not fit inside the closed cart must be placed in bags next to the cart. Hazardous materials, electronics, tires, and construction debris are not accepted in curbside collection and must be disposed of separately. Collection schedules are divided by neighborhood zone, and residents can verify their collection day through the town website or utility billing office. Service is included in the monthly utility bill.
Repeated failure to follow placement rules may result in service refusal for that collection day. Code enforcement may cite improper waste storage under Chapter 50 with fines up to $500.
