Monterey Park Municipal Code Section 6.08.070 lets residential customers set out bulky items, meaning discarded large or small appliances, furniture, carpets, mattresses, clothing, tires, and oversized wood waste as defined in Section 6.08.020, once they give the servicer twenty-four hours' notice. Those items go out at the curb or alley for the next normal weekly pickup, subject to the same timing limits Section 6.08.060(d) sets for ordinary carts: nothing goes out more than twenty-four hours before the scheduled date, and anything not collected must come back off the right-of-way by midnight of collection day. Refrigerators get faster service: the servicer must pick one up within twenty-four hours of the resident's notice rather than waiting for the weekly route. Where a curb does not exist, bulky items go as close to the edge of the street as practicable.

Section 6.08.080 sets the underlying service floor and fee structure for ordinary pickup. Collection fees are fixed by city council resolution rather than in the code itself. Every single-family home, and every multi-unit building not on bin service, must carry pickup service equivalent to similar dwellings in the city, so a household cannot simply opt out of collection while still generating refuse. Multi-unit buildings that do not receive curbside service instead must maintain a minimum bin size of one and one-half cubic yards, serviced at least once a week. Community and Economic Development's code enforcement staff and Public Works administer these service levels, and because the chapter states no separate penalty for a pickup-rules violation, noncompliance falls back on the citywide misdemeanor default in Section 4.10.010.
