Monterey Park, CA Trash & Recycling: Yard Waste Collection (2026)

Chapter 6.08 defines yard waste as leaves, clippings, brush, branches, and other organic waste from landscapes and gardens that is not more than five feet in its longest dimension, not more than six inches in diameter, and weighs no more than fifty pounds, expressly excluding palm fronds, which fall instead under bulky item collection. Section 6.08.060 requires every residential property to use only the containers supplied by the city's servicer, and where the standard container capacity is insufficient, the customer must subscribe to additional service to protect public health against vector growth.

For curbside service, refuse and recyclables other than yard waste go in the black container, while yard waste goes in the green container, and no container may go out for pickup if its contents exceed three hundred pounds. Containers cannot be placed on the parkway for collection earlier than twenty-four hours before the scheduled pickup day, and any container not collected, or bulky item not removed, must be pulled from the public right-of-way by midnight of the collection day. Containers must be set with wheels against the curb and at least one foot apart, or toward the lot where no curb exists, and no occupant may move a bin or debris box placed by the servicer.

Section 6.08.070 lets residential customers place bulky items, including oversized wood waste not qualifying as yard waste, at the curb for the next weekly pickup with twenty-four hours' notice to the servicer.
