Richmond contracts exclusively with Republic Services (formerly Richmond Sanitary Service) for residential and commercial solid waste, recycling, and organics collection under a franchise agreement administered through the West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority (RecycleMore). Collection occurs once per week on a fixed day determined by address. Residents can look up their day at republicservices.com or by calling 510-262-7100. Carts must be placed at the curb with wheels toward the house, handles facing the street, at least three feet of clearance on all sides (away from parked cars, mailboxes, and other carts), by 6:00 AM on the service day. Richmond Municipal Code Chapter 9.28 (Solid Waste) requires carts to be removed from the public right-of-way within 24 hours of pickup; leaving carts curbside longer is a municipal infraction with fines escalating from a courtesy notice to $100+ per occurrence.
