Ridgewood, NJ Trash & Recycling: Pickup Rules & Schedules (2026)

Village of Ridgewood Code Section 165-19 lays out what residents must do to prepare waste for pickup beyond just container type. Subsection D makes it unlawful for any residential or commercial property owner, occupant, or lessee to permit open or overflowing waste disposal bins on their property. Subsection E requires carpet to be cut into four-foot lengths, rolled, and securely taped or tied into bundles 12 inches or less in height, and Subsection F requires every mattress, regardless of fabrication or size, to be placed in a plastic mattress disposal bag before curbside set out.

Subsection G, added by Ordinance No. 3877 in November 2021, caps bulk refuse at seven items maximum per pickup: an item that has been dismantled still counts as one item, and each disposable container of loose materials counts as one item. Ferrous and nonferrous metals, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, microwaves, tires, and lead-acid batteries are excluded from that seven-item count because they are collected for recycling instead of as ordinary bulk refuse. Loose bulk refuse must also be placed in disposal containers suitable to prevent spilling or overflow during pickup under Subsection C. 1 and the bulk-refuse-specific rules in Chapter 165, Article V.
