Ridgewood collects household garbage at the rear or side yard twice weekly under Chapter 165, with strict container weight and capacity limits.
Chapter 165 (Garbage, Rubbish, Refuse and Recycling), adopted August 27, 1974, governs waste collection in the Village. Household garbage is collected at the rear or side yard twice weekly. Garbage and rubbish must be stored in watertight metal or plastic waste cans not exceeding 32 gallons in capacity or 80 pounds gross weight. Containers that are rusted, damaged, or not water-, fly-, or rodent-tight are prohibited. Specific collection days are published via the Recycle Coach app and Village calendar.
Using oversized or damaged containers, exceeding weight limits, or failing to maintain watertight containers can result in nonpickup and municipal fines under Chapter 1 general penalties.
