Yuba City has an exclusive franchise with Recology Yuba-Sutter for weekly three-cart curbside collection (gray landfill, blue recycling, green organics). Carts must be set out by 5:00 a.m. on the assigned service day.
Residential service is provided under an exclusive franchise agreement with Recology Yuba-Sutter, administered regionally through the Regional Waste Management Authority. Every household receives three carts: gray for landfill trash, blue for recyclables, and green for organics (yard waste and food scraps). Basic service includes a 32-gallon gray cart; 64- and 96-gallon upgrades are about $0.50/month extra. Recycling and organics service are bundled with garbage and carry no separate fee. Containers must be placed at the curb by 5:00 a.m. on the assigned collection day (or the night before), spaced about 3 feet apart and clear of obstacles for the automated truck arm. Yuba City's organics-in-the-gray-cart rules differ from neighboring jurisdictions (the gray cart in Yuba City still accepts certain food waste and paper towels, whereas Live Oak, Marysville, Wheatland and unincorporated areas must use the green cart for food waste under SB 1383).
Cart-setout violations are handled by Recology as a service issue (missed pickup, contamination tag, or extra-pickup charge of about $4.75 per 32-gallon overflow bag). Repeated contamination or non-subscription is enforced as a code-compliance matter through Yuba City Code Enforcement at (530) 822-4703; failure to maintain mandatory collection service can be cited as an infraction.
