Delray Beach operates a dual-stream recycling program with blue bins for paper and cardboard collected one week, and yellow bins for glass, metal, and plastic containers the alternate week. Contamination tagging applies to improperly sorted loads.
The Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County runs one of the most advanced Material Recovery Facilities in the southeast US. Blue bin accepts newspapers, magazines, office paper, cardboard, and paperboard. Yellow bin accepts aluminum cans, steel cans, glass bottles, plastic containers marked 1-7 with narrow necks. Plastic bags, styrofoam, food-soiled paper, and plastic tubs from yogurt or butter are NOT accepted in curbside. Plastic bags can be returned to grocery store collection bins. Electronics go to the SWA facility on Jog Road. There is no mandatory commercial recycling ordinance in Delray Beach but SWA encourages business participation.
Contaminated bins are tagged and may be left uncollected. Persistent contamination may result in recycling service suspension.
