North Miami operates a single-stream curbside recycling program collected once weekly for residential properties. The city provides 96-gallon blue recycling carts at no additional charge. Accepted materials include newspaper, magazines, office paper, cardboard (flattened), plastic containers numbered 1 through 7, glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, and milk/juice cartons. All recyclables must be clean, dry, and empty. Items should be placed loose in the cart β no plastic bags. Cardboard boxes must be broken down flat. Contaminated items (food-soiled paper, greasy pizza boxes) should go in regular garbage. Items not accepted include plastic bags, styrofoam, garden hoses, clothing, ceramics, mirrors, window glass, and hazardous materials. Miami-Dade County operates the recycling processing facility serving North Miami. The city participates in county-wide recycling education initiatives. To request a recycling cart or report missed pickup, contact Public Works at (305) 895-9830.
Contaminating recycling with non-accepted materials may result in the entire cart being collected as garbage. Repeated contamination may result in code enforcement notices. Failure to participate in the recycling program where service is provided may result in warnings. The city encourages recycling to meet Miami-Dade County waste diversion goals.
