SWA operates a dual-stream recycling program: blue bins for paper/cardboard and yellow bins for plastics, metals, and glass. Recycling is mandatory countywide under PBC Code Chapter 14.
Palm Beach County uses one of the few remaining dual-stream recycling systems in Florida. Blue cart accepts newspaper, magazines, office paper, cardboard, and paperboard. Yellow cart accepts plastic bottles/jugs (#1, #2), aluminum cans, steel cans, and glass bottles/jars. Plastic bags, Styrofoam, food waste, and yard waste are NOT accepted in carts. Contaminated loads may be rejected. SWA operates a state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) processing 200,000+ tons annually. Mandatory under PBC Code Β§14-71.
Recycling contamination: warning then $50-$100 fine. Disposing recyclables in trash by businesses: commercial penalties apply.
