Rio Rancho, NM Trash & Recycling: Recycling Requirements (2026)

The city's solid waste franchise covers both trash and recyclable materials (§ 50.06(A)), collected together once a week from residential premises (§ 50.07(A)(3)(b)). Rio Rancho does not mandate that residents source-separate recyclables: the code defines source separation but never requires it. Funding is baked into the franchise fee: since January 1, 1993, 1.5% of the fee residents and businesses pay has gone toward city beautification and recycling programs, and the Sanitation Officer must study collection and recycling service quality annually and report to the governing body (§ 50.04(C)(10)).
