South Jordan provides weekly curbside single-stream recycling in the blue 96-gallon cart. Accepted materials include paper, cardboard, plastics #1 and #2, aluminum and steel cans, and glass is generally NOT accepted curbside and must go to drop-off sites.
South Jordan's recycling program is single-stream, meaning all accepted materials go into one blue 96-gallon cart without sorting. Accepted items include: flattened cardboard, paper (newspaper, office, junk mail, magazines), plastic bottles and jugs marked #1 PET and #2 HDPE, and aluminum and steel cans. Plastics #3-#7, plastic bags, film, Styrofoam, clothing, electronics, and yard waste are NOT accepted in the curbside cart and contaminate loads. Glass is NOT accepted curbside in South Jordan; residents can recycle glass through Momentum Recycling drop-off sites (several throughout Salt Lake County) or the Salt Lake County Trans-Jordan Landfill. Empty and rinse containers lightly; no food residue. Do not bag recyclables; place loose in the cart. Contaminated loads may result in the cart being tagged and left unemptied. The recycling cart is collected weekly on the same day as trash. The city participates in education campaigns through the Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District and encourages residents to 'recycle right' to reduce contamination. E-waste, paint, batteries, and household hazardous waste must be taken to Salt Lake County's Household Hazardous Waste facility.
