South Jordan residential trash, recycling, and green waste are collected weekly by the city's contracted hauler on assigned routes Monday through Friday. Containers must be placed at the curb by 7:00 AM on collection day and removed by the end of the day.
South Jordan contracts with a solid waste hauler (historically Waste Management / WM) to provide weekly curbside garbage collection plus weekly or alternating recycling and seasonal green waste pickup. Each residence receives a 96-gallon black trash cart, a 96-gallon blue recycling cart, and optionally a green yard-waste cart (seasonal). Collection day is assigned by neighborhood and is published on the city's website via the WM 'My Pickup Day' tool. Containers must be at the curb by 7:00 AM on the scheduled day and removed from public view by the end of collection day or the following morning per South Jordan Municipal Code Title 8. Containers must be placed with wheels toward the house, handles toward the street, and at least three feet from other containers, mailboxes, cars, and obstacles to allow automated side-loader trucks to grip them. Holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day) may shift the collection day by one day for the remainder of the week. Missed pickups should be reported to the city within 24 hours. Containers may not be placed at the curb more than 12 hours before pickup.
