Section 6-205(c)(3)(ii) requires every residential and commercial customer to place organic materials, including green waste, in the green container furnished by the authorized collection agent, keeping it separate from the gray solid-waste container and the blue recyclables container. The 4-inch diameter cutoff in the green waste definition matters in practice: a prunings or trimmings piece under 4 inches counts as green waste and rides the routine weekly service required by Section 6-205(b), but anything larger falls outside the definition and must be handled as a special haul under Section 6-205(c)(5), billed at the Master Fee Schedule rate, or hauled by the customer to a lawful disposal site.

Residents who compost only vegetation grown on their own premises are exempt from the container rules under Section 6-205(c)(6), so long as the Director determines the pile is aerated enough to avoid odor or vermin complaints from neighbors. on collection day, per Section 6-205(c)(11). Violations are enforced by the Public Utilities Director's staff, who issue a notice of violation giving 60 days to correct the problem under Section 6-216 before an administrative citation and fine can follow.
