A bars anyone from planting, pruning, removing, spraying, destroying, defacing or injuring a street tree or park tree without first obtaining a written permit from the Public Ways and Parks Division; an approved site plan under the zoning title counts as that permit. B naming the applicant and the person doing the work, the species and location of the tree, and agree in writing to hold the city harmless. C set the worker's name, work location and any conditions, expire 30 days after issuance unless stated otherwise, and exceeding the permit's authorization triggers the chapter's penalties under 6-2-12.

10 separately declares it a public nuisance to plant a small or medium tree, as designated by the urban forester, in a park strip narrower than five feet, or a large tree in a strip narrower than eight feet. 11 further bars planting a small tree within two and one-half feet of a curb or sidewalk on private property, a medium tree within three feet, or a large tree within four feet. The arboricultural regulations adopted under 6-2-5, filed with the city recorder and available through the Public Ways and Parks Division, designate the permitted tree species and set standard planting, spacing and pruning methods for street and park trees.
