Brentwood, CA Animal Ordinances: Bird Protection (2026)

02 of the Brentwood Municipal Code lists the acts that are unlawful inside a city park or facility. Subsection K prohibits any person from hunting, molesting, harming, frightening, killing, trapping, chasing, teasing, shooting, removing, possessing, or throwing objects at any animal, reptile, or bird on park property. Subsection L goes further and separately bars removing or possessing any wild animal, bird, or fowl, or the eggs, nest, or young of any reptile, wild animal, or bird found in a park. The two subsections together cover both direct harm to birds and interference with their nests and offspring, and they apply to every city park, open space area, and recreation facility administered by the parks and recreation department.

180 list of thirty-plus prohibited park activities, all enforced by the parks and recreation director and by code enforcement staff who patrol Brentwood's park system, including Loma Vista, Garin, City, and Sunset Park. Because the ordinance is a park-specific conduct rule rather than a citywide wildlife code, it does not reach bird activity on private property; state law (Fish and Game Code protections for native and migratory birds) still applies everywhere else in the city. 020, which makes any violation of the parks title a misdemeanor.
