Lehi, UT Animal Ordinances: Breed Restrictions (2026)

Lehi's animal control chapter does not name or restrict any dog breed. Section 6-4A-10, Vicious Animals, instead sets up a behavior-based process: it is unlawful for any person to have any animal determined to be vicious within the city, with a single exception for guard dogs. The determination is not automatic. When a complaint is made that an animal is vicious, the police department investigates the incident, and if the investigating officer finds reasonable cause to believe the animal is vicious, the officer can require the owner or custodian, pending a judicial determination of the animal's vicious nature, to either show sufficient ability to secure the animal so it cannot contact other people or animals, or remove the animal from the city.

In the officer's discretion, the animal can instead be impounded while the judicial determination is pending. Guard dogs are carved out under subsection C but only if they are kept so that they cannot come into contact with other people or animals that are legally on the premises where the guard dog works. So a dog of any breed can be declared vicious in Lehi based on its documented behavior, and the consequence is confinement, removal from the city, or impoundment rather than a fine alone.
