Boca Raton prohibits keeping chickens, turkeys, geese, and most livestock within city limits under Chapter 5, Section 5-1 of the Code of Ordinances. The only exception is horses and ponies kept by a duly licensed riding academy.
Under Section 5-1 of the Boca Raton Code of Ordinances, it is unlawful to keep, harbor, or maintain within the city limits any horses, mules, sheep, cattle, hogs, goats, geese, turkeys, chickens, or other livestock or fowl. The sole exception permits horses and ponies at duly licensed riding academies on the academy premises. This is one of the strictest livestock ordinances in South Florida, reflecting Boca Raton's affluent residential character. There are no urban chicken permits, backyard fowl allowances, or special exemptions for hobby farming within city limits.
Violations of Chapter 5 animal ordinances are enforced by Code Enforcement and Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control. Fines and mandatory removal of prohibited animals may result.
