Lawton, OK Animal Ordinances: Chickens & Livestock (2026)

Section 5-4-404 makes it unlawful to keep any large or small animal in the city without a permit, and Section 5-4-405 requires the Animal Welfare Division to inspect the property and coordinate with the zoning administrator before approval. Owners of more than five acres with no more than one single-family dwelling may keep large animals without a permit at a density of one animal per acre under Section 5-4-405(B)(1). Everyone else must apply, and Section 5-4-408 caps any permit at a combined total of two large animals or twelve small animals, and no more than two miniature pigs per household regardless of permit type.

Section 5-4-409 sets facility standards: large-animal quarters must sit at least 100 feet from any dwelling occupied by someone other than the applicant, with a stall at least six feet by twelve feet and an adjoining exercise lot at least fifteen by twenty-seven feet; small-animal enclosures must sit at least 25 feet from a neighbor's dwelling. Domestic birds and fowl, including backyard chickens, are governed separately by Section 5-4-415(B): their housing must also stay at least 25 feet from a neighboring dwelling, confine the birds from running at large, and provide adequate sanitary drainage.
