Chapter 130's Keeping Poultry and Rodents subchapter starts from a default ban: § 130-070 makes it a nuisance and unlawful to keep rodents or poultry in the city except as otherwise provided in this subchapter. The exceptions that follow set the real rules. Section 130-071 requires poultry or rodent enclosures to sit at least 20 feet from a neighboring property on lots of a half-acre or less, and at least 30 feet away on larger lots; pet rodents like gerbils or hamsters kept indoors are excluded.

Section 130-072 bans keeping poultry or rodents in any front yard. Section 130-073 caps the enclosure itself at no larger than 200 square feet, no taller than the adjacent fence line on lots under an acre, or up to 8 feet tall on lots over an acre. Section 130-075 sets the head count: a single-family home on a half-acre or less may keep up to six fowl or rodents, with an additional half-acre required for each extra 20 head, and no limit at all above two and a half acres.

Section 130-076 bars male poultry capable of vocal noise that disturbs neighbors. Section 130-077, added by Ord. O2025-017 on June 4, 2025, bans ratites outright citywide. Separately, § 130-056 forbids swine except registered purebred miniature potbellied pigs under 100 pounds, capped at three per household.
