Yuma, AZ Animal Ordinances: Pet Limits (2026)

City Code § 130-058(A) makes it a nuisance and unlawful to keep any animal on a lot smaller than 10,000 square feet, a rule enforced by the city enforcement agent as part of the Keeping Animals subchapter. Subsection (B) then carves out the exception nearly every household relies on: keeping six or fewer small household pets, including but not limited to dogs or cats in any combination, per household, is exempt from the lot-size nuisance rule, as is any commercially zoned animal use lawful under the city's zoning ordinance.

Larger animals face separate, stricter math under § 130-058(C) and (D): no more than two large domestic animals (horses, cows, burros, mules) or four sheep, goats and similar animals are allowed on a lot under one acre, and on lots over one acre the allowance is one horse, cow or similar animal, or two sheep or goats, for every 6,000 square feet of net lot area after deducting a half-acre for the home site, with animals six months or younger not counted toward the total.

Commercial livestock feedlots operated for a fee are barred outright under § 130-058(D)(2). A related setback rule, § 130-059, separately bars keeping any corral, barn, shed or animal structure within 20 feet of a neighboring dwelling, except doghouses and similar small-pet housing.
