Yorba Linda adopts the Orange County animal ordinance. Off the owner's property, a dog must be restrained by a substantial chain or leash no longer than six feet and controlled by a competent person. Off-leash play is allowed only at Checker's Dog Park.
Yorba Linda has no in-house animal control; it contracts with Orange County Animal Care (OCAC), and YLMC Chapter 6.04 adopts the County's Codified Ordinances Title 4. Under Orange County Codified Ordinance (OCCO) 4-1-45, a dog off its owner's premises must be restrained by 'a substantial chain, or leash not exceeding six (6) feet in length' held by a competent person; running at large is prohibited. The only Yorba Linda exception is Checker's Dog Park, where dogs may be off-leash within the fenced area. Dogs over four months that have been in the city more than 30 days must carry a current OCAC license (OCCO 4-1-70/71) and wear the tag. Strays are impounded at the OCAC shelter, 1630 Victory Road, Tustin.
Enforced by Orange County Animal Care under the adopted County ordinance. A dog at large or off-leash off the owner's property may be impounded, with owners owing impound, boarding, and license fees before release.
