Yorba Linda, CA Parking Rules: Driveway Rules (2026)

Section 18.10.100.C of the zoning code governs residential vehicle parking. Subsection 1 prohibits parking any vehicle, boat or trailer in the front yard except on a paved driveway; elsewhere on the lot, a vehicle must be enclosed in a building, kept under a carport, or parked on a paved, fenced side or rear yard area screened from view of neighbors and the street by walls, fencing or landscaping. Subsection 3 bars parking any Class 5 or larger commercial truck, truck-tractor or similar equipment on residential property, except briefly for deliveries or for materials needed on an active, permitted construction job.

Subsection 4 allows recreational vehicles, including motorhomes, boats and trailers, to be stored on a single-family lot only on a paved surface, parked perpendicular to the street if kept in the front setback, screened behind a six-foot solid wall or gate if kept in a side yard, kept off corner-lot street side yards, kept clear of the public right-of-way, and limited to vehicles owned by the property's own owner or tenant. Subsection 5 limits a single-family detached lot to one driveway curb cut leading to a garage, carport or converted accessory dwelling unit, though the Community Development Director and City Engineer may approve one additional cut for a circular driveway or other qualifying layout.

Subsection 6 sets the minimum driveway width at 16 feet, widened to 20 feet for flag lots, though the Director may authorize a narrower driveway in consultation with the Fire Marshal when secondary access or other mitigating factors make the standard width unnecessary. All driveway surfaces must be paved in concrete, asphalt or another permanent material approved by the Director.
