Yorba Linda requires vehicles, RVs, boats and trailers parked in a residential front yard to be on a paved driveway, prohibits blocking sidewalks, and bars encroachment into the public right-of-way.
Zoning Code Chapter 18.10 (Sec. 18.10.100) provides that no vehicle, boat or trailer may be parked in a residential front yard except on paved driveways, and any vehicle in the front-yard setback must sit perpendicular to the street. Parked or stored vehicles may not encroach into the public right-of-way or onto any public or private access drive, street or pedestrian walkway. The City's Vehicle Parking guidance adds that a vehicle cannot block the public sidewalk, street or alley; California Vehicle Code Section 22500 likewise prohibits blocking a driveway or sidewalk. Driveway approaches across the public right-of-way are subject to City engineering standards and encroachment permitting.
Parking on unpaved front-yard areas or in a manner that blocks a sidewalk or encroaches on the right-of-way is a zoning/code violation handled by the Community Preservation Division; sidewalk and driveway blocking is also citable under CVC 22500.
