Section 92.30(G) sits among the chapter's prohibited acts and caps ordinary household ownership at four dogs, four cats, or a combination of the two once the animals pass six months of age; animals younger than six months do not count toward the cap, which lets a litter of puppies or kittens stay temporarily without violating the limit. The same subsection separately restricts anyone boarding animals for compensation or keeping them for sale to no more than two on the premises, unless the property is a regularly established and zoned veterinary hospital, pet shop, pound, or shelter, each of which needs its own license under § 92.65 rather than relying on the residential pet-limit exception.

The cap applies per premises, not per person, so a shared household cannot simply divide ownership among residents to exceed four dogs or four cats. An owner over the limit is in violation of § 92.30 generally, which § 92.50 declares a public nuisance subject to seizure of the excess animals by the police department or animal warden. Because kennels, pet shops, and similar commercial keepers are licensed separately under §§ 92.65 through 92.69, with annual license fees set in the village's fee schedule at § 41.01 and inspections required under § 92.69, a resident who wants to keep more than four animals has to convert the use to a licensed commercial category rather than simply requesting a residential variance.
