Schaumburg discourages feeding of wildlife including deer, coyotes, and geese through its nuisance ordinances. Feeding wild animals that creates nuisance conditions or attracts dangerous wildlife may result in code enforcement action.
The Village of Schaumburg addresses wildlife feeding through its nuisance and public health provisions. Schaumburg is home to significant populations of white-tailed deer, coyotes, Canada geese, and other wildlife. Intentionally feeding deer and coyotes is discouraged and may be enforced as a nuisance when it attracts animals to residential areas in numbers that damage landscaping, create traffic hazards, or pose safety risks. Feeding Canada geese in parks and public areas contributes to water quality problems and aggressive bird behavior. Residents must secure trash containers to prevent wildlife access. Bird feeders are generally permitted but must be positioned to minimize attraction of rodents and larger wildlife. The village participates in Cook County Forest Preserve wildlife management programs. Contact the police non-emergency line for coyote sightings or wildlife concerns.
Feeding wildlife that creates nuisance conditions may result in warnings and fines under the village nuisance code. Failure to secure trash containers may also result in property maintenance violations.
