Schaumburg requires dogs to be on a leash no longer than 6 feet when off the owner's property. Dogs must be under the physical control of a competent person at all times in public areas. The Village operates off-leash dog park areas in designated parks.
Under Schaumburg Village Code Chapter 90, dogs must be restrained on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length when in any public place, street, sidewalk, park (outside designated off-leash areas), or on another person's property. The leash must be held by a person capable of physically controlling the animal. Dogs must wear current Village registration tags and rabies vaccination tags at all times when off the owner's property. Schaumburg offers off-leash dog park areas at designated locations within the Schaumburg Park District system, where dogs may run free within fenced enclosures. Dog owners are responsible for cleaning up after their animals in all public areas. Contact Schaumburg PD at (847) 882-3586 for leash law enforcement or animal control matters.
Leash law violations carry fines of $50 to $250. Dogs found running at large may be impounded by Animal Control. Owners must pay impound and boarding fees to reclaim their animal.
