Westminster, CO Animal Ordinances: Wildlife Feeding (2026)

Section 6-7-13(I) of the Westminster Municipal Code, part of the chapter's Care and Treatment provisions, states plainly: it is unlawful to knowingly place or provide food for any wild animal, with the two named exceptions of squirrels and passerine birds. The Code defines 'wild animal' broadly in Section 6-7-1 to include raptors, furbearers, all game animals, non-domesticated waterfowl, and all other species existing in a natural, unconfined state that are usually not domesticated, which sweeps in deer, geese, coyotes, and foxes drawn onto residential or park property by intentional feeding.

The provision sits in the same section as the City's cruelty, neglect, sanitation, abandonment, and animal-fighting rules, reflecting that unauthorized wildlife feeding is treated as a public-safety and animal-welfare issue rather than a zoning nuisance. Unlike most of Chapter 7's civil-infraction violations, subsections (A) through (H) of Section 6-7-13, including the cruelty and neglect provisions, are criminal offenses; the wildlife-feeding subsection (I) and the animal-in-vehicle subsection (J) are instead classified as civil infractions carrying the standard fine.
