Abington, PA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 67-2 of the Abington Township Code adopts and incorporates by reference "the Uniform Construction Code, contained in 34 Pa. Code, Chapters 401 through 405, as amended from time to time," as the municipal building code of the Township, and the section states that this "includes each of the various International Codes incorporated into the code Act," the mechanism through which the National Electrical Code reaches electrical work in Abington. Section 67-1 confirms the Township elected to administer the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act itself, Act 45 of 1999, 35 P.S.

Sections 7210.101 through 7210.1103, rather than defer to the state Department of Labor and Industry, and Section 67-3 lets the Township carry out that administration through its own code official, a retained third-party agency, or an intermunicipal agreement. Section 112.3(Q), added to Chapter 62 by Section 62-2(E), sets the electrical permit application fee on a sliding scale tied to the price quoted to perform the work: $15 for jobs up to $500, $30 from $501 to $1,000, $45 from $1,001 to $1,500, $60 from $1,501 to $2,000, and $15 for each additional $1,000 or fraction above $2,000.

That fee is charged separately from HVAC, plumbing and building permit fees in the same schedule, so an electrical upgrade tied to a larger renovation draws its own permit and its own line-item cost alongside the rest of the project's permits.
