Abington, PA Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 112.3(N)(ii) of the Abington Township Code, added by Section 62-2(E) to the adopted BOCA Basic Building Code, ties the permanent use and occupancy permit to an inspection: the Code Enforcement Department issues it "when, upon inspection," the department determines the building or structure passes all Township code requirements. The fee for that inspection and certificate is $75 for residential and institutional buildings and structures, $50 for residential rental units, and $100 to $200 for commercial and apartment buildings, on top of a separate temporary use and occupancy fee that runs from $30 for up to 30 days to $100 per day beyond 60 days if a project drags past punch-list items.

Section 112.3(O) then sets escalating charges when the first inspection fails: a special inspection fee of $50 applies when the Code Official is asked to make a special inspection, and once a reinspection is needed because the work still does not meet the Building Construction Code or still has uncorrected defects, the first repeat inspection costs $30, the second $40, the third $60, and every inspection after the third $100, an escalating structure meant to push contractors toward getting the work right the first time rather than treating reinspections as routine.

Section 1806.1 separately lets the Code Official prescribe footing depth, width or reinforcement beyond the printed minimums when site tests or conditions warrant it, subject to inspection before the foundation is closed in.
