Arcadia, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 8310 adopts the California Electrical Code, 2025 Edition, as the electrical regulations for the City of Arcadia. The adoption includes Article 89 and the appendices, indices, tables and State of California amendments applicable to local jurisdictions, as published and adopted by the National Fire Protection Association. The Code governs, regulates and controls all of the activities it refers to as though set forth in the Chapter in full. One copy is on file in the office of the Building Official for public use and examination. The amendment history for the section runs through Ord. No. 2408, § 5, adopted 11-18-25.

Section 8320 states the purpose: minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property, and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, erection, installation, alteration, repair, location, relocation, replacement, addition to, use or maintenance of any electrical system within the City.

The only local amendment is § 8330.1, adopted due to local climatic and geographical conditions. Its text requires the PV system disconnecting means to be installed at a readily accessible location, with a single, visible-open, lockable AC disconnect provided within 3 feet of the meter on the exterior of the building. Where disconnecting means of systems above 30 V are readily accessible to unqualified persons, any enclosure door or hinged cover that exposes live parts when open must be locked or require a tool to open. The section heading names Article 690.13(A), while the printed amended text is numbered 609.13(A).

Permit fees for Article VIII work are established by resolution of the City Council, with an added refuse fee in an amount also established by resolution (§ 8020.8). For swimming pools, the fee for each pool, spa or hot tub includes its electrical and plumbing systems (§ 8530.2, Section 3109.2.1), and a pool demolition requires electrical wiring and conduit serving the pool to be terminated at the source of supply and removed (§ 8530.10, Section 3109.4).
