Laguna Niguel, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Sec. 8-2-1, enacted by Ordinance No. 2025-237 on December 2, 2025, adopts the 2025 Edition of the California Electrical Code, itself based on the 2024 National Electrical Code published by the National Fire Protection Association, as the Electrical Code of the City of Laguna Niguel. The adopted code regulates all installation, arrangement, alteration, repair, use and other operation of electrical wiring, connections, fixtures and other electrical appliances on premises within city limits, and it is adopted as part of the broader set of 2025 California codes brought in under Sec.

8-1-12. Because the Electrical Code is one of the codes listed in Sec. 8-1-2 and Sec. 8-1-4, two other general provisions of Division 1 apply directly to electrical permit work: all fees for electrical permits are set by resolution of the city council rather than fixed in the code text itself, and the standard citywide building-code violation and board-of-appeals provisions govern electrical work the same as any other adopted construction code. A property owner or contractor pulls an electrical permit through the same Building Official review process used for the rest of Title 8, and permits are subject to the general expiration and extension rules that apply to all building permits issued under the adopted 2025 codes.
